Our natural stones become digital

The stone4you digitization project took 2nd place in the digi4Wirtschaft funding campaign run by the state of Lower Austria! With over 1500 submissions, this was a sensational success for a natural stone company.

Anyone who thinks that a stonemasonry business is old-fashioned and dusty has not yet seen our stone professionals at work. We use computer-controlled machines to saw workpieces to the exact millimeter. We take the structure and color of each raw slab into account as early as the order planning stage. In this way, kitchens, bathrooms and staircases are created as if from a single cast.

With the interactive 3D visualization, we are shifting up a gear in production planning: in the near future, you will be able to select different types of stone from the comfort of your own home and see on the screen which stone best suits your new dream bathroom or kitchen. As soon as you have fallen in love with a natural stone, you can of course also view it in person at our large materials exhibition in Hollabrunn.

The selection at Stone4you is huge. In our 10,000 m² showroom you will find natural stones for your flooring, steps and window sills. In the summer months, our stones for pools and terraces are a hit. Each slab is unique by nature and has its own texture. The most beautiful results are achieved when the pattern is taken into account when planning the kitchen or bathroom, especially with strongly textured varieties. The biggest challenge for the programmers is to digitally capture the natural diversity of the stones and display them in a photorealistic way, explains Sebastian Leeb, who has been in charge of the digitization project launched in 2020 from the very beginning.

Traditional font design

The lettering workshop in spring 2021 together with master stonemason Josef Hasch from Karnabrunn presented completely different challenges. Sebastian Leeb and other participants learned how to design inscriptions, which they then engraved in stone. The program included drawing on paper, transferring to stone and carving with traditional hand tools. The supreme discipline of engraving is considered to be gold lettering, the perfect execution of which requires years of training. The participants practiced this too.

"For me as a young stonemason, it is a valuable privilege to be able to learn the traditional craft from scratch from the experienced master stonemasons. I am also pleased that we can contribute to leading stonemasons into the age of digitalization," says Sebastian Leeb, summing up his impressions of the digitalization competition and the writing workshop.
