The longing for the Mediterranean lifestyle

INDISPENSABLE BEAUTY: NATURAL STONE IN GARDEN DESIGN

Who hasn't experienced this carefree feeling of Mediterranean joie de vivre: from the lightness of Mediterranean cuisine to maritime plants and herbs to the typical citrus and olive trees, which are transformed into natural sculptures in garden design thanks to their gnarled structure and are also climate-resistant. They are all more reminiscent of vacations in Tuscany or the Croatian seaside than of private gardens at home. Materials such as wood, water and unmistakable natural stone turn the garden into a complete work of art! Lovers of this Mediterranean flair are increasingly returning from their summer vacation with the desire to implement this lifestyle in their own kitchen garden. Light-colored limestones such as Kanfanar or travertine lend an authentic Mediterranean feel and characterize paths, terraces, water elements and natural stone walls. Respectively, they merge with modern outdoor kitchens made of high-quality stone to form an aesthetically and functionally unique symbiosis.

A well thought-out design and the harmonious combination of indoor and outdoor areas are correspondingly important. The patio in particular has long since taken on the role of an additional living space: sheltered from the wind, covered, with a cozy lounge, atmospheric lighting and often equipped with a highly functional outdoor kitchen. As a result, a wide variety of stones become a supporting element in the garden design between the patio, pool area and the actual ornamental garden, creating eye-catchers and underlining the aesthetic garden architecture.

Our clients place the highest value on first-class stone and workmanship quality and masterly precision in craftsmanship. Professionalism, top advice, time-saving coordination of all the trades trades involved as well as price reliability and adherence to the timeline are essential for all customers.

With the wide range of natural stones from the Lower Austrian stonemasonry company stone4you and their professional processing, numerous individual projects are created around the natural material stone, tailored to the needs of the customer. The experienced stonemasonry team is involved in the design, creation, stone selection, processing and implementation of many customer orders right from the start of the project. This has been the case for 25 years!

Kanfanar natural stone - elegance for gardens and terraces

Kanfanar limestone (also known as „Giallo d'Istria"), named after a small village near Rovinj on the Istrian peninsula, has been traditionally quarried for centuries. The history of this light yellow natural stone dates back to the 15th century, when the stone was first discovered near the village of Kanfanar. The place name gave the stone its name. The amphitheater in Pula was built with the beige limestone as early as the first century AD, at the same time as the Colosseum in Rome. Due to its unmistakable beauty, Kanfanar was used by the Romans and in the Austro-Hungarian monarchy for important cultural monuments. Today, the natural stone adorns the cityscapes of numerous places in Croatia and Italy, including breathtaking Venice.

Natural stone is an ideal material for outdoor areas because it is extremely robust, heat- and weather-resistant and retains its quality for many years. Especially in comparison to many classic kitchen materials, it is significantly more durable and less sensitive to temperature and weather fluctuations. At the same time At the same time, each stone has its own structure and color - resulting in outdoor kitchens that are not only functional but also very individual in terms of design.

Kanfanar remains a key design element in modern architecture and professional garden design due to its elegant appearance and durability. Landscape architects and garden planners use it for high-quality paving, exclusive patio areas, harmonious pathways, benches and non-slip pool surrounds. Its warm, natural colors are reminiscent of the sun-drenched coastal resorts of Croatia, Italy or Greece. Its exceptional quality, durability and frost resistance make it a preferred material. Because where natural stone meets sophisticated design, an interplay of craftsmanship and Mediterranean elegance is created. Kanfanar is particularly popular in combination with natural pools and water elements, as its natural structure emphasizes the Mediterranean flair. Depending on the surface finish, it can have a modern, minimalist or rustic, traditional look and can be ideally combined with wood, metal and lush planting. Thanks to these properties, it is not only a functional building material, but also a style-defining element that transforms outdoor areas into exclusive, Mediterranean retreats.

CULINARY ENJOYMENT THANKS TO ULTRA-MODERN OUTDOOR KITCHENS

The desired Mediterranean lifestyle inevitably includes culinary enjoyment in the garden. With the new generation of creative kitchen designs, the outdoor area can be transformed into a functional and aesthetic cooking landscape. Thanks to innovative induction hobs, generous, custom-made, robust worktops and plenty of storage space for kitchen utensils, crockery, glasses and cutlery, the garden and patio become a place of enjoyment at the highest level. Obligatory kitchen appliances such as a (wine) fridge, grill or dishwasher round off the outdoor cooking experience.

Integrative solutions are playing an increasingly important role today because many customers want a calm and clear design. design. When technology disappears beneath the stone surface, the natural effect of the material remains material remains in the foreground and the kitchen appears much more minimalist and of a higher quality. At the same time at the same time, it also shows how versatile natural stone can be used today - as a functional work surface and as a central design element. design element.

ON TREND: MONOLITHIC ISLAND WORLDS MADE OF STONE

This newly designed outdoor project combines the highest demands of a modern outdoor lifestyle with the desire for the Mediterranean lightness of Croatia. The beautiful Kanfanar limestone from Istria harmonizes wonderfully with the Brazilian Infinity Brown quartzite selected for the outdoor kitchen. This modern kitchen design was realized according to the personal ideas of a stone4you customer in terms of aesthetics, functionality and technical features. Even including its own DJ booth. Unlike traditional outdoor cooking areas, the result is a living space in nature that has been thought through down to the smallest detail, with the kitchen and living room merging into a holistic outdoor concept. The implementation was planned in technical detail in advance via computer. Finally, the natural stone was not only laid, but also bonded to a metal construction, drilled, adjusted and precisely processed. Because every component had to fit with millimeter precision. So that function, design and durability work together perfectly.

This true statement piece of a stone4you outdoor kitchen represents the ideal symbiosis of high-quality natural stone, innovative technology and precision craftsmanship.

This aesthetic outdoor island world was complemented by further Monolith key pieces: such as a small, fine whirlpool, a modern outdoor shower, matching benches, wall cladding and a fireplace as well as a warming fire pit. So that you can enjoy the Mediterranean lifestyle late into the night, even on cool summer evenings. The high-quality Kanfanar limestone was also used to lay the natural stone for the outdoor shower, with its characteristic Rigatto surface, characterized by fine, linear grooves, giving the material an elegant yet natural effect. Particular attention was paid to the hand-finished edges, which create a flowing, visually continuous gradient at the corners. The stone was thus perfectly showcased with precise machine cutting and traditional craftsmanship.

The fireplace and seating area, on the other hand, are each milled from two solid blocks of stone and then finely finished. Complemented by the characteristic rigatto structure on the sides. What at first glance appears to be a sculptural work of art is in fact a functional, made-to-measure design. The same applies to the light-colored stepstones, which were individually manufactured as freely shaped individual pieces and lend the garden an organic, unmistakable touch. In addition, a fireplace surround made of Croatian Plano stone provides an elegant accent. Polygonal slabs were laid piece by piece on site and each one was reworked during installation so that the joint pattern was as delicate and filigree as possible. The result is an almost seamless stone surface that forms a perfect contrast to the black furniture - calm, high-quality and timeless. The natural stone around the whirlpool is probably the most sensual feature: the cladding and side panels are made of Pannonia Green, whose calm, natural shade also harmoniously blends in with a small waterfall. The inside of the pool is covered with fine mosaic - a detail that creates light reflections and transforms the water into a lively interplay of color and movement.

KANFANAR - THE RIGHT STRUCTURE FOR EVERY TASTE

Its natural structure gives it an elegant yet unobtrusive look. It can be sanded, brushed or sandblasted to achieve different surface effects. This versatility opens up numerous design possibilities:

  • Terrace floors: the warm coloring and pleasant feel make it the ideal choice for Mediterranean outdoor seating areas

  • Garden paths and borders: its robustness and non-slip surface ensure safe and stylish paths through the garden

  • Walls and natural stone walls: Whether as a dry stone wall or grouted - Kanfanar gives property boundaries, raised beds or privacy walls a charming, Mediterranean touch.

  • Outdoor kitchens: A kitchen made of hard-wearing, robust Kanfanar in combination with fine materials such as stainless steel impresses with its high quality and unique design and takes luxurious outdoor living to a new level.

  • Pool surrounds: Its resistance to water and weathering makes it perfect for exclusive pool landscapes.

  • Stairs and steps: Whether as a large open staircase or small steps - Kanfanar ensures a harmonious overall appearance in the outdoor area.

This natural stone is also easy to maintain and is therefore often used in bathrooms, entrance halls and wellness areas. The combination with other materials such as glass, wood or stainless steel as well as other natural stones such as granite, marble or sandstone has a particularly aesthetic effect and gives the rooms an extraordinary Mediterranean charm. Thanks to the short transport route in the countryside, Kanfanar is quickly available, even for custom-made projects. The quarry in Istria mines in deep locations, which means that the stone supplied can have attractive fossil inclusions if desired. Further advantages of Kanfanar are its high resistance, which many limestones cannot offer, as well as fair trade, which underline the sustainability of the visually attractive, particularly easy-care natural stone.

THE COOLING EFFECT OF KANFANAR

Kanfanar limestone also has a high thermal inertia. During the day, it absorbs heat slowly, keeping the surface at a pleasant temperature. At night, it slowly releases the stored heat again, contributing to a balanced microclimate. Its light, friendly coloring is not only aesthetically pleasing, it also reflects up to 80% of the incoming solar radiation, while dark materials absorb it almost completely and convert it into heat. The light color of the Kanfanar makes a patio that is in the shade appear much friendlier.

But even in fully sunny areas, the light-colored surface ensures that the ambient temperature does not heat up further - an important factor for the overall garden climate. The combination with green elements is also ideal: plants near natural stone surfaces benefit from the lower radiant heat, while the evaporation of the plants in turn contributes to cooling the surroundings. The choice of surface finish also influences the thermal behavior. A slightly textured surface of flamed Kanfanar slabs increases the surface area minimally and thus increases the heat dissipation to the air. At the same time, it provides a non-slip surface that is pleasant to walk on - even when wet.
